La Soufrière Marketing (LSM) was born from a vision to restore the village mindset, the kind of community where people looked out for one another and everyone played a role in building something lasting.
For founder Mackanda Barker, that vision is deeply personal.
Originally from Rose Hall village, which overlooks the La Soufrière volcano on the island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, he spent his earliest years surrounded by the island’s beauty, strength, and sense of resilience.
At only five years old, he relocated with his family to the United States, first to New York, then to Northern Virginia just outside Washington D.C.
Sundays often meant early mornings in worship, and during his years in Virginia, even Saturday services were part of the family rhythm when he lived in NY.
It was in Virginia, at his home church New Life Assembly of God, that Mackanda first recognized his calling into ministry.
Though he spent years in the business world, he always felt the Lord drawing him back to serve through purpose, leadership, and community.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
Proverbs 16:3
To Mackanda the volcano represents something far greater than "The Sulfur Mine". The volcano's strength, transformation, and endurance, became a lifelong symbol of what LSM stands for: rebuilding communities one relationship at a time.
Pronounced "La Soo-Free-Air"
Vincentian Pronunciation "La So-Fray"
A spirit of renewal followed Mackanda as he grew up in the U.S., where his mother’s and father's faith, dedication to church life, discipline and steady guidance helped shape his character and calling.
After working in environments that undervalued his gifts, Mackanda reached a defining moment.
Through prayer, reflection, and study of Proverbs, he began to see business not merely as commerce, but as ministry.
Guided by faith and a desire to serve others in excellence, he founded La Soufrière Marketing to empower small businesses, churches, and organizations with honest, transparent, community-driven solutions that reflect both integrity and faith.
“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles.”
Isaiah 40:31
To empower local entrepreneurs and faith-based organizations with transparent, sustainable marketing and energy programs that promote growth, efficiency, and community impact, returning to the biblical principle of the village: where everyone thrives together.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
Colossians 3:23
To be a trusted bridge between small businesses and the innovative solutions that power their future, fostering transformation, resilience, and kingdom-minded collaboration in every community we serve.
“Write the vision and make it plain, that he may run who reads it.”
Habakkuk 2:2
